Today we recognize ombudsman (ombuds) offices across Canada and around the world for the work they do to help ensure governments treat people fairly. In Canada, provincial ombuds offices take complaints from the public and help to resolve them informally or conduct investigations. Depending on the findings, a provincial ombudsman may make recommendations to help correct unfair situations and improve fairness for everyone. Ombudsman are independent, impartial and confidential.
